Instructions for Assembling and Operating

SETTING UP THE MACHINE

After unpacking the instrument, remove the carton containing the soundbox. Dust out the well of the instrument, and note carefully the position of the tone arm and winding handle and record tray.

Playing a Record.

Remove the crook from the clip and swing the tone arm round to the right as far as it will go ; fit the soundbox on the crook, engaging the small pin on the inside of the soundbox in the bayonet slot in the crook, and turn the box to the right till the pin strikes the end of the slot. This will determino the position of the soundbox.

Turn the crook back and allow it to rest on the elbow stop.

HOW TO OPERATE
Stand the instrument on a firm level support, remove the record tray and place a record on the turntable.
NOTE: Do not attempt to carry more than 12-14 records at one time in the record tray—i.e.. do not fill record tray so full that the lid is strained when dosed for carrying.

Take the winding handle from the winding handle clip and slip it straight into the winding sleeve on the right-hand side of the instrument looking from the front.

NOTE: The winding handle may be instantly inserted or detached. It is not necessary to screw it into position, at the handle is fitted with dots which engage corresponding projections in the interior of the sleeve.

The instrument ready to be closed after use.

Turn the winding handle with a steady motion in a clockwise direction and wind until the spring offers undue resistance. Insert " His Master's Voice " needle in the triangular hole in the soundbox and tighten firmly by means of the needle screw. A needle container is fixed to the right-hand front corner of the instrument. This can be opened by pressing the centre front of the container, then gently pulling out until it conics to a stop. Be careful to see that the needle container is dosed when the instrument is to be moved.

To Start Turntable Revolving
With the hand brake lever in start position (i.e., switched over to the right), swing the tone arm across the record to the right.

Speed of the Turntable
It is essential that the turntable should revolve at a speed of 78 revolutions per minute. The successful reproduction of records is vitally affected by the speed of the turntable. The speed must be tasted while a record is losing played.

Speed Regulator
The speed regulator will be found on the left-hand corner of the front of tho motor board.

THE AUTOMATIC BRAKE
With the auto-brake lever in "ON" position, this brake will automatically stop the turntable revolving at the end of any record having an outer diameter of more than 7 inches and a spiral quick run-in groove. To stop records having an outer diameter of more than 7 inches, but no spiral quick run-in groove, swing the tone arm across the record to the left towards the back of the instrument.

When playing record.; having an nutter diameter of less than 7 inches, or special records, such as puzzle records, and when playing only part of a record, the auto-brake lever must be set to the " OFF " position and the turntable controlled by the hand brake.

NOTES

NEVER USE FORCE.

SEE that the pin on the longer of the two levers. fixed to the base of the tone arm, locates between the forked members of the brake lever when a record is being played.

Be careful not to overwind the motor.

Do not drop the soundbox on the record.

Use only " His Master's Voice " needles, either Tungstyle, fibre or steel.
" His Master's Voice" needles are designed to give the most accurate possible reproduction with the longest possible record life.

CARE OF MOTOR

The parts of the instrument which require oil are the bearings of the turntable. governor spindle. ends of the governor sleeve, the governor pad. and the intermediate spindle.
